SUMMARY:Week of the Young Child 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us for NAEYC’s 2024 Week of the Young Child® celebration! Our annual event celebrating early learning\, young children\, their teachers\, and families. We are so excited for another fun-filled week celebrating young children and their families with hands-on\, collaborative activities encouraging movement and healthy lifestyles through music\, food\, and art. \nThe Week of the Young Child® is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)\, the world’s largest early childhood education association\, with nearly 60\,000 members and a network of 51 Affiliates. \nThe purpose of the Week of the Young Child® is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. \nNAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child® in 1971\, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children’s success in school and later life. The Week of the Young Child® is a time to plan how we—as citizens of a community\, of a state\, and of a nation—will better meet the needs of all young children and their families. \nSouthwest Ohio AEYC will be celebrating this year’s Week of the Young Child by hosting events\, sharing resources\, and raising public awareness of the importance of early childhood education. \nLearn more at naeyc.org/events/woyc. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Race and Racism in Early Childhood Education
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Week of the Young Child 2024\, this Work Together Wednesday\, we will be exploring how we can intentionally work together to address challenging issues. \nWe are all in different places as we move forward in our journeys through entrenched and challenging issues. Many of us shy away from discussing racism out of fear that we will make a mistake\, offend others\, be labeled as angry or racist\, or face repercussions in our work or personal lives. During this event\, we will follow a facilitated discussion from Exchange Reflections on an article titled Our Children\, Our Workforce: Why We Must Talk About Race and Racism in Early Childhood Education. At the end of the discussion\, each participant will be welcomed to make a commitment to professional action steps inspired by the article. \nThis event will be facilitated by Southwest Ohio AEYC Equity Committee Co-Chairs Denise Steward and Bella Frueh. \nRegistrants will be sent a PDF version of the article within 3 business days of registration. Participants may request an attendance certificate via email after the event. \nPlease note that\, in order to facilitate an engaging discussion\, spots are limited—so register now! \nRegister Here\n
