Many of us shy away from discussing racism out of fear that we will make a mistake\, offend others\, be labeled as angry or racist\, or face repercussions in our work or personal lives. During this event\, we will follow a facilitated discussion from Exchange Reflections on an article titled Our Children\, Our Workforce: Why We Must Talk About Race and Racism in Early Childhood Education. At the end of the discussion\, each participant will be welcomed to make a commitment to professional action steps inspired by the article. \nThis event will be facilitated by Southwest Ohio AEYC Equity Committee Co-Chairs Denise Steward and Bella Frueh. \nRegistrants will be sent a PDF version of the article within 3 business days of registration. We are so excited for another fun-filled week celebrating young children and their families with hands-on\, collaborative activities encouraging movement and healthy lifestyles through music\, food\, and art. \nThe Week of the Young Child® is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)\, the world’s largest early childhood education association\, with nearly 60\,000 members and a network of 51 Affiliates. \nThe purpose of the Week of the Young Child® is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. \nNAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child® in 1971\, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children’s success in school and later life.
